Install on your computer (local)
Try Sellora on Windows, macOS or Linux with Laragon, XAMPP, MAMP or PHP's built-in server.
A local install lets you explore Sellora and build your store before you buy hosting. Nobody else can see it.
What you need#
- PHP 8.3 or newer with the required extensions.
- MySQL 5.7+ or MariaDB 10.3+.
The easiest ways to get both:
| System | Tool |
|---|---|
| Windows | Laragon (includes PHP, MariaDB and Apache/Nginx) or XAMPP |
| macOS | Laravel Herd, MAMP or Homebrew (brew install php mariadb) |
| Linux | Your package manager (see Install on a VPS) |
Steps#
- Create an empty database (for example
sellora) with phpMyAdmin, HeidiSQL or themysqlcommand. - Copy the contents of the
sellorafolder to a folder in your tool's web root (Laragon:C:\laragon\www\sellora; XAMPP:htdocs/sellora). - Open the address the tool gives you. In Laragon this is automatic:
http://sellora.test. - Run the setup wizard. Use host
127.0.0.1, your database name and the local database user (oftenrootwith an empty password in Laragon/XAMPP).
Using PHP's built-in server#
From the folder containing the artisan file:
php -S 127.0.0.1:8000 -t public
Then open http://127.0.0.1:8000. This single-process server is fine for trying things out, but pages can feel slow on the first visit while views are compiled.
Things that behave differently locally#
- Payment webhooks cannot reach
localhost. Gateways that need a webhook (Stripe, PayPal, Razorpay ...) will only confirm payments on a public address. Use an HTTPS tunnel service if you want to test them locally. - E-mail is written to the log file (
storage/logs) until you configure SMTP - see E-mail. - HTTPS is usually not available. That is fine for testing.
Moving from local to a live server#
See Moving to another server. You can export your catalogue as CSV and re-import it on the live site, or move the files and database together.
