Subdomain and subfolder installs
Run Sellora on a subdomain (recommended) or alongside another site, and what to know about subfolders.
Subdomain (recommended)#
A subdomain such as shop.your-domain.com behaves exactly like a normal domain, so every instruction in the install guides applies.
- Create the subdomain in your hosting panel (cPanel: Domains or Subdomains). The panel proposes a folder, for example
public_html/shoporshop.your-domain.com. - Upload the contents of the
sellorafolder into that folder - see Install on shared hosting. - If the panel lets you choose the document root, point it at the
publicsubfolder (best). Otherwise leave it: the root.htaccessforwards requests topublic. - Open
https://shop.your-domain.comand run the wizard.
On a VPS, create a separate Nginx server block or Apache virtual host for the subdomain - see Install on a VPS.
Subfolder (example: your-domain.com/shop)#
Not covered by our testing
Installing Sellora in a subfolder of another website was not tested for this release. A subdomain is strongly recommended because it avoids path conflicts with the other site's rules, links and .htaccess.
If you have no alternative:
- Prefer an Alias (Apache) or
location /shopblock (Nginx) that serves Sellora'spublicfolder under the/shopURL, rather than uploading files into a folder of the other site. - Enter the full address including the folder (
https://your-domain.com/shop) asAPP_URLin.env. - Re-test every page type: home, shop, product, cart, checkout, the account area and the admin panel (
/shop/admin).
Two Sellora stores on one server#
Each store needs its own files, its own database and its own purchase code (one licence covers one live site). Put each in its own folder with its own domain or subdomain.
Staging copy of your store#
Install a second copy on a subdomain such as staging.your-domain.com with its own database, and use a separate purchase code only if you intend to run it as a live store. Do not enable real payment credentials on a staging site.
